ITCHY SKIN SPRAY
When you find your goat or pig itching to the point of hives, scratches and cuts, here is a mixture that always worked to reduce the itch and irritation for my animals (goats, pigs, horses and dogs).
In a 16 oz. spray bottle add together:
- 1 cup Aloe Vera Gel 100% Pure (no added alcohol-Read the fine print)
- 3 cups Lotion (An Aloe Vera or Vitamin E body lotion works (no cocoa butter lotions)
- ¼ cup Showsheen Hair Polish (found in the horse isle)
- ¼ cup Caladryl Clear (Generic or other brands work too – such as Calaclear, Calahist, or Clear Anti-Itch Gel)
Add all ingredients to bottle and shake well to mix. Spray a good amount all over the affected area and hand rub it in.
Apply 2x a day to clean skin. Remove any mud or debris. Your animal will love the itch relief and the massage from you!
Purpose of Ingredients:
Heal & Restore Skin: Aloe Vera & Body Lotions
Calm the Itch: Benadryl Clear
Condition hair & skin: Showsheen
Flies
If Flies are a problem, spray horse fly repellant after applying the lotion. This ensures that the skin is conditioned & sealed before applying a fly spray that could cause further irritation. I find that horse fly repellent is fairly mild for their skin and works great to reduce fly irritations.
For more information on Management of Flies, see the article “Fly Control” under the Barn section.
