PROBIOTIC THERAPIES FOR GOATS, SHEEP & SWINE
How to Use Probiotics to Relieve Digestion Distress
Every animal and person has bacteria in their digestive system. This “good bacteria” helps the body with the digestion process and fighting off bad bacteria. Probiotics help balance the digestive bacteria.
My first time using a probiotic was with our market goat. During an evening feeding, we found our young goat lying down with his stomach bloated, moaning, groaning & grinding his teeth. I got him to his feet and administered a dose of probiotic paste. In a short time it took effect and brought him relief. We continued give him probiotics for 3 days to make sure he was past his digestive issues.

The word probiotics is originally taken from Greek words

Pro–Biotic = Is to grow bacteria
TYPES OF PROBIOTICS
Probiotics are a must have item in my medicine cabinet and can be given to goats, sheep, swine, horses & dogs in a variety of forms. There are tubes of gel/paste, powders & granules for sprinkling over grain, liquid oral suspension and chew-able pills. I find that the paste is the most convenient to store and administer, especially to an animal that isn’t eating.
WHEN SHOULD PROBIOTICS BE USED?
Probiotics can be used to ease the stress of your goats, sheep & swine when there is a change in; Environment, Feed, Birthing, Trailering, Vet Visits, Showing or any other situation that puts them under stress. Probiotics help the system recover to optimum status naturally. They cover a broad variety of digestive issues and do not require a prescription to administer.
A daily dose can also clear up a variety of skin issues by helping the body fight the allergy or irritant. Email us for a list of recommended products or places to order.
Probiotic History
Per Wikipedia.com “the term probiotic is currently used to name ingested microorganisms associated with benefits for humans and animals by Nobel recipient Élie Metchnikoff. He suggested in 1907 that “the dependence of the intestinal microbes on the food makes it possible to adopt measures to modify the flora in our bodies and to replace the harmful microbes by useful microbes”. Probiotics support healthy digestion, maintain proper appetites & helps the body with nutrient absorption.”
